Angola Honours Murtala Muhammed and Obasanjo as gratitude to Nigeria

The President of the Republic of Angola HE. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, will decorate this Thursday, 06/11, three prominent figures from Nigeria as part of the Golden Jubilee of the 50 Years of Independence. 

These are the former Head of State of Nigeria, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed and President Olusegun M. Obasanjo who will be decorated with the Class of Honor medal, whill Prof. Ibrahim AgboolaGambari will receive the Peace and Development medal.

The decoration of these eminent personalities is a symbolic recognition and deep appreciation selflessfor their contribution to the process of political emancipation and the achievement of lasting peace in Angola. 

Angola wants with this gesture to express the appreciation of the Angolan people to the Nigerian people for the sacrifice they made in voluntarily supporting the cause of freedom and independence in Angola.  

Representing the family, the children of the Late Head of State, Aisha MUHAMMED-OYEBODE and RisquaMURTALA MUHAMMED, are already in Luanda, capital of Angola, for the award ceremony.

Obasanjo and Gambari will also arrive in Luanda in the next few hours.

GOLDEN JUBILEE IN ABUJA

This Thursday, 06/11, the Embassy of Angola in Nigeria will celebrates, at the Fraser Suites Hotel in Abuja, 50 Years of Independence with a Round Table themed “Pieces of Angola’s History told by protagonists”

The Round Table is also a tribute to General Murtala Ramat Muhammed who spared no efforts to support the independence process of the Republic of Angola.  

Members of the Nigerian Government, the Diplomatic Corps, academics, businesspeople and Nigerian Armed Forces Generals who participated in the peace process of the Republic of Angola will be present.

Ambassador José Bamóquina Zau will welcome the participants with a message of hope and consolidation of cooperation relations between the two Countries.

Nigeria supported Angola’s liberation struggle politically, financially and materially, as well as being the first African country to offer 20 scholarships to young Angolans who graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria/Kaduna, Calabar and Jos.
