The Holy See Press Office, Vatican City, Rome, made this known in its medical update on Pope Francis\u2019 condition on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Though critical, the statement pointed out that the Catholic pontiff had not experienced any further respiratory crisis adding that Pope Francis remains alert and well-oriented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday, in particular, Pope Francis participated in the Holy Mass, in an apartment on the tenth floor of the hospital, together with those who have been taking care of him since his admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pope Francis was on February 14 admitted to the Gemelli Hospital, Rome, due to worsening bronchitis, with the first diagnostic tests showing that he had a respiratory tract infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Francis, 88 years old, reported having breathing difficulties during his meetings on Friday before being taken to hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Giving specifics of the Pope\u2019s current state, Sunday\u2019s Holy See press office\u2019s statement read, \u201cThe condition of the Holy Father remains critical, but since yesterday evening, he has not experienced any further respiratory crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe received two units of concentrated red blood cells with beneficial effects, and his hemoglobin levels have risen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe thrombocytopenia remains stable; however, some blood tests show early, mild renal insufficiency, which is currently under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHigh-flow oxygen therapy continues through nasal cannulas. The Holy Father remains alert and well-oriented,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
